James Billington scores a win in Germany
James Billington scored a win on day one at the Eschweiler Jumping Festival in Germany, with Golden Boy.
Forty-five came forward to the 2* 1.25m speed with James and the Cardento/Lux nine-year-old outpacing all rivals to commandeer first place by 0.72 sec. Alena Hughes was five sec in arrears for fourth on Rainbow with John Whitaker in fifth aboard Storm. Georgia Tame was one of the steadiest clears to take 11th on Casalina while other Brits gave their horses an easy first run out and picked up time faults – Alena (Grannuschka), Harry Wainwright (Sparkling Miss Dignified), Jack Whitaker (Elucar VE and Fahra ES) and Michael Whitaker (Haya Loma N and For Fun) were bunched together to fill 13th to 19th places.
Harry steered Pinheiro Beech into second in the 2* 1.35m. Forty-eight contended this speed class with Harry and the British-bred Its The Business/Cantero 11-year-old finishing 2.28 sec behind the winner. Alex Barr guided Ferrara Durona into sixth just ahead of James aboard Confortuna VDL in seventh. Steadier clears from Spencer Roe on Flock and John with Unick Du Francport claimed 15th and 20th places.
Kimberly White slotted Catapult into eighth in the 22-horse ladies 1.30m speed almost nine sec behind the pace.
