Holly Smith lands a win in the sun
Holly Smith claimed two of the top four places in the seven-year-old in Vilamoura, Portugal, winning with Dakota in a close competition.
Thirty-four contended this speed class over a 1.35m track with Holly claiming the top spot on the Denver V/Rex Z gelding Dakota by just 0.02 sec over Italy’s Luca Maria Moneta on Chilli 41. Holly also netted fourth on History (Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve/Berlin) 2.60 sec in arrears - Holly has ridden both horses, previously with Lucy Struthers, for the past two months. Graham Gillespie eased Hennessy-S into sixth and James Smith jumped a steadier clear for 11th on HBF-Delmar.
Howard Ephgrave netted second spot in the five-year-old 1.10m on Jayley. Twenty-three contended this speed class with Howard and the Don Diablo HX/Phin Phin mare finishing 0.82 sec behind the winner. Chloe Aston guided Nanuchka Van Berkenbroeck Z (Nonstop/Concorde) into fourth with Claire Prowse on Origi Van De Bandam and Jude Burgess with Onessa Van’t Krekenhof also posting clears for seventh and 10th.
Steady clears in the six-year-old 1.25m speed handed Nicole Lockhead Anderson on Azolette and Charlene Bastone’s Dorien 55 11th and 13th places.
