Ellie Burrell-Squibb takes victory in Valkenswaard
Ellie Burrell-Squibb dismissed any nervousness or pressure riding in the awesome Valkenswaard arena on the Longines Global Champions Tour to take victory in the 1* 1.10m in fine style on Zalander.
Twenty competitors contended this two-phase class with Ellie outpacing all on the Cantos/Cash 15-year-old to take the win by just 0.04 sec. Imogen Beecroft steered the Lord Z 11-year-old Chablis ET into third with Abbie Summers in seventh on Acajous Il Faut. Alicia Store returned steady double clears to take 10th and 11th on Capellini II and Uranie.
Alexandra Thornton guided Charielle into fifth in the 55-strong 5* 1.45m two-phase, the Chacco-Blue 13-year-old finishing 2.88 sec behind the winner, France’s Roger Yves Bost on Castleforbes Talitha.
Chloe Winchester eased the nine-year-old Untouch Z into third in the 52-entry 2* 1.40m two-phase 0.27 sec off the pace. John Daker was also double clear on the Heartbreaker 12-year-old Credit Card to take sixth.
An easy clear from Chloe on the Quasimodo Z seven-year-old Quasmo CK Z finished 11th in the six and seven-year-old speed five sec off the pace.
Michael Duffy rode Rumbolds Starlight into sixth in the 53-strong 2* 1.45m two-phase, the El Thuder/Unbelievable Darco nine-year-old finishing two sec behind the pace.
William Whitaker clinched 12th place in the 64-horse 2* 1.35m two-phase on the Cicero Z 10-year-old RMF Retro with a steady double clear.
Arundell Beerbaum rode the Cassini II nine-year-old Cassina into fifth in the 1* 1.35m two-phase 1.53 sec behind the pace. Claire Beecroft was also double clear in the 27-horse class to take seventh on the Berlin nine-year-old Kandora.
Easy double clears in the 27-strong 1* 1.20m two-phase handed Tess Carmichael on Chisinau W Z and Camilla Bingham’s Cassini II 12th and 13th places.
Joe Clayton claimed third in the 3* 1.50m on Baldur 75 in Opglabbeek, Belgium.
Sixteen of the 66 starters posted first round clears with Joe and the Baloussini 10-year-old breaking the beam 0.72 sec behind the winner.
Emily Llewellyn eased Qualyse Be-St Z into fourth in the seven-year-old 1.35m two-phase. Forty contended this class with Emily and the Quasimodo Van De Molendreef/Sandro Boy mare finishing 1.92 sec off the pace.
Tom Whitaker slotted the Cordess 2 six-year-old Clever Boy Jun into third in the 65-horse five and six-year-old 1.15/1.25m two-phase 1.86 sec behind the pace. And Tom also finished 10th in the 98-entry 3* 1.40m speed on the Peppermill eight-year-old Peppercorn more than six sec off the pace.
Alison jumped clear on Saphir and Billy Rembrandt to take eighth and 11th in the 51-strong 3* 1.35m speed.
A mammoth 107 competitors tackled the 1* 1.30m two-phase with James Wilson taking 11th on Gainesboro and Emily also posting a double clear with Sieco to finish 14th.
An easy double clear in the 74-horse 1* 1.20m two-phase handed Romilly Simmons and Avicii 13th place.
In Spangenberg, Germany, Ellen Whitaker steered Hulahupe JR into seventh in the 66-strong seven-year-old 1.30m speed 4.50 sec off the pace.
