Guy Williams is half sec from victory in St Gallen

Guy Williams got St Gallen, Switzerland, off to a good start with a second and fifth on day one.

was one of only four from 45 starters to jump a round one clear and access the jump-off of the evening’s 1.50m and slotted Cicero II (Cicero Z Van Paemel/Guidam) into second place. The pair finished 0.56 sec behind the winner, Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli on Koddac Van Het Indihof. Billy Twomey and the Lord Z 10-year-old Lady Lou were also contenders but four faults dropped them to fourth.

Guy jumped into fifth in the 1.45m two-phase with Mr Blue Sky UK, the Chacco Blue/Cento 10-year-old 3.18 sec behind the pace. Switzerland’s Pius Schwizer scored a home win on Balou Rubin R. A steady clear from James on Imagine De Muze earned 14th place in the 45-strong class.

Holly Smith slotted Fruselli into second in the 1.40m. Fifty-one contended this speed class with Holly and the Zambesi/Karandasj nine-year-old finishing 0.96 sec behind the winner, Brazil’s Pedro Veniss and Anaya Ste Hermelle. James Wilson jumped a steady clear on Eskola M for 17th.
