Brits claimed both wins on day one in Balmoral with Louise Saywell and James Smith jumping to the top.
Eight of the 38 starters accessed the jump-off of the 1.45m with Louise coming forward on Old Lodge’s Cayado nine-year-old Golden Arrow OL to win with 0.86 sec in hand over Ireland’s Greg Broderick on LVS Wizard. Four faults dropped Nigel Coupe and Balzac to seventh and although Stacey Babes posted a round one clear, she opted to withdraw Castlefield from the jump-off and finished eighth.
James Smith raced to the top in the Top Spec 1.40m speed on Simply Splendid.
Thirty-four came forward in the glorious grass arena with James and the Ustinov/Cavalier 10-year-old flying ahead to take the win by 1.33 sec. Jonathan Dixon guided Fireball into third with Keith Shore in fourth on Iron Lady Van’t Meulenhof. Eoin Gallagher on Flugel M and Nigel Coupe aboard Mystic Independence posted the steadiest of the clears for ninth and 10th.
