Matt Sampson (Seen here on Cristo Beech) gained a win and a second place in Opglabbeek, Belgium, flying into the top spot of the 1* 1.30m speed with Encore.
Fifty-four tackled this class with Matt outpacing them all on the Nabab De Reve/Damiro 10-year-old mare to win by 0.41 sec. Phillip Spivey was three sec in arrears for sixth with the eight-year-old Alicerova (Romanov/Contender).
Matt guided Cristo Beech into second in the 2* 1.35m two-phase. Sixty-two contended this class with Matt and the It’s the Business eight-year-old finishing 2.27 sec behind the winner, Ireland’s Gerard O’Neill on Warriors Glory – a 10-year-old British-bred Warrior/Caretino Glory stallion bred by Brendon Stud.
Chloe Aston claimed third in the six-year-old 1.20m speed on Nistria Chanti Z, the Nabab De Reve/Diamant De Semilly mare 2.20 sec off the pace. Phillip Spivey was also clear for eighth on Cornet’s Blue in the 40-strong class.
Four faults in the first round of the 77-horse 2* 1.45m dropped Chloe and Amigo T down to 15th. Sam Hutton also returned on four with Victoria for 20th. Brazil’s Nando de Miranda took the win in the 11-strong jump-off on Zandora Z.
Steady rounds in the 47-entry seven-year-old 1.30m speed saw Sam Hutton on Goodwill V/D Coefering and Luke Barham’s Hornesch incur one time fault each to take 15th and 18th places.
In Fontainebleau, France, Lance Whitehouse netted fifth in the 40-horse 2* 1.45m speed with the 14-year-old Goodtimes stallion Alex H 3.67 sec behind the winner.
Jodie Hall-Mcateer slotted Coquin De Coquerie Z into sixth in the 31-entry 2* 1.35m two-phase, the 10-year-old Consul Di Vie Z/Fergar Mail stallion 4.39 sec behind the pace.
Jess Mendoza eased I-Cap CI Z into ninth in the 60-strong 1* 1.25m speed, the I’m Special De Muze/Air Jordan seven-year-old finishing eight sec off the pace.
Kate Ward jumped a double clear in the 34-horse amateur 1.10m to finish fourth on the nine-year-old Cavalier Royale daughter Ears Two some two sec behind the pace. And Kate jumped a steady clear in the amateur 1.15m speed to take eighth on Magano Van De Pertjeshoeve more than 15 sec behind the winner.
Melissa Eagles posted a double clear to take 12th in the 28-strong 1* 1.30m two-phase on Axle (Ocombo De L’eau/Dallas VII) six sec off the pace. And Melissa jumped an easy round in the 64-horse amateur 1.20m speed to take 13th on Freedom more than six sec behind the winner.
