Scott Brash continued with his winning run at the Mexico leg of the Longines Global Champions tour and just 24 hours after taking the GNP Seguros Trophy with Hello Mr President, the pair returned to claim a second victory in the 5* 1.55/1.60m speed.
This 5* world ranking class also counted as the second leg for the Global Champions league and grand prix qualifier with 54 going against the clock. But super-cool Scott outpaced them all to claim victory on the Comme D’Api Jr 10-year-old Mr President with a handsome 3.63 sec to spare over the USA’s Beezie Madden on Darry Lou. British-based Irishman Michael Duffy jumped an easy clear eight sec off the pace to take eighth on Quintano and Ben Maher produced the steadiest of the clear rounds to finish 12th on Madame X.
Michael provided a consistent double clear over the two Global Champion League rounds lifted the Miami Celtics to sixth with teammates William Whitaker on RMF Cadeau De Muze (8) and Shane Breen (Ipswich Van De Wolfsakker, 4) on a total of 12 faults.
Scott’s clear round helped New York Empire team-mates Daniel Bluman (Sancha LS) and Denis Lynch (Hector Van D’Abdijhoeve) finish eighth on a 16 fault total. And Michael Whitaker jumped for four faults in each round with partner Bassem Mohammed and Gunder on clear and eight for the Doha Flacons to finish ninth on 16.
Michael and Quintano were one of 12 combinations qualifying for the Longines Global Champions grand prix of Mexico with a first round clear but four faults in round two dropped them to ninth. Belgium’s Jerome Guery took the win on Quel Homme De Hus with a 0.96 sec advantage over Egypt’s Abdel Said in second aboard Venise Du Reverdy. Seven posted double clears with Harrie Smolders taking third on Don VHP Z.
