Winners 24 hours earlier, David Simpson and Jenson 55 had to settle for third place in the 2* grand prix of Bonheiden, Belgium.
Sixty-two competitors initially contended this 1.45m with 15 coming forward to the jump-off, David and the 11-year-old Verdi/Padinus stallion Jenson finishing 1.33 sec behind the winner, Belgium’s Pieter Devos on Jade VD Bisschop. Ollie Tuff was fractional in arrears for fourth on the Verdi/Burggraaf 11-year-old Darino B and Mattie Lanni double clear for seventh on Newbridge’s Master Brown while Louise Simpson finished 15th on Felix X.
Beth Vernon guided Fenix into second in the 2* 1.30m two-phase. Eighty-eight contended with Beth and the Darco/Burggraaf nine-year-old mare finishing 0.49 sec behind the winner. Ollie Tuff slipped into fourth on the Warrant nine-year-old Esgracia and Chris Smith netted seventh aboard Coriander Van’t Vennehof. Ollie also picked up 14th on Cumana Van Pottelberg with Rose Moss in 18th on African Affiar and steadier double clears for LiZ Forrester (Furst Bismark) and Antonia Platt (Amigo) earned 21st and 22nd.
Chris slotted Flaming De Pravia into third in the 57-strong seven-year-old. Nineteen reached round two with Chris finishing 0.77 sec off the pace. Asrian Whiteway was a fraction slower for fourth on Cooley Network and Jessica Botham was also double clear on Sovereign Equestrian’s Highhope DD for 10th spot.
Scarlette Norman jumped to the top in the 31-strong 1* 1.10m two-phase with In Time, the Winningmood 11-year-old claiming victory by 0.29 sec. Antonia Platt guided the eight-year-old Mr Blue daughter G Star Blue into fifth with Mattie Lanni eighth on Dream Du Toultia Z and Jasmin Clark finished 12th on Pippa Acord. Scarlette also picked up 15th on second ride Will Power S and Francesca Draycott’s double clear aboard Fernhill Fair Cruise earned 16th.
