Paul Bevan jumped to the top in the 1* 1.10m with Winterfield on the Peelbergen Spring tour in Kronenberg, The Netherlands.
Fifty-two contended this two-phase class with Paul and the Balou Du Rouet/Carthago 10-year-old forging ahead to take victory by 1.47 sec. Paul Crago finished fifth on the Baltic VDL six-year-old Hulten with Mischa Irbing providing one of the steadiest double clears on I Sir Marcus for 14th. Four faults in the second phase dropped Chad Fellows on Cedrik and Paul Gaff with Csiko for 18th and 19th.
Vicky Lovegrove was just 0.20 sec off the winning time and had to settle for second place in the 1* 1.20m two-phase with the Upgrade 12-year-old Codean R. A steady double clear from Claire Salem and Chablis De Eros finished in 19th place in the 75-strong class.
Paul Crago guided June Hof Ter Zeedycke into seventh in the medium 2* 1.40m two-phase, the Clinton I/Landlord 10-year-old 2.36 sec off the pace. Eoin Gallagher was double clear on Oakingham Stud’s Flugel M for 11th place in the 67-strong class.
Paul Crago also finished ninth in the 39-entry young horse five-year-old 1.15/six-year-old 1.25m two-phase on the six-year-old Arko daughter Aycha GD Z to take ninth 3.89 sec off the pace. Eoin was 12th on the six-year-old Ibesi Cooper and Paul Gaff was also double clear in the 39-entry class for 20th on the five-year-old Jonagold.
Alistair Hippisley Gatherum jumped into fifth in the 43-horse seven-year-old 1.30m two-phase with Gerard Van Den Katten Eeck (Elvis Ter Putte/Lys De Darmen) 0.94 sec behind the winner. Mischa Irving also returned penalty-free for 14th on Halvador.
Steady clears for a trip out in day one’s 1.40m grand prix qualifier – a 77-strong speed class – handed Chad Fellows on Confident of Victory and Paul Bevan’s Deangelo II 15th and 18th places.
Louise Saywell gave Fantastico C an easy trip in the mammoth 110-horse 1.35m two-phase to finish on a double clear and 16th place.
