Joseph Stockdale lands his first win with Tornado De Monts in Spain
Joseph Stockdale scored his first win on Tornado De Monts since taking over the reins in November from his late father Tim – and made it an International victory.
Twenty competitors contended the big tour 1.40m on the Seville tour in Carmona, Spain, with just three making the jump-off, Joseph guiding Colin and Ann Garratt’s Flipper D’Elle/Narcos II 12-year-old into the top spot with the only double clear. And Joseph also picked up fifth with one time fault in round one on Don Diego De Plata.
Joseph posted an impressive double clear in the world ranking 1.45m grand prix on Gunner II to take fourth. Only six of the 42 starters reached the jump-off with Joseph again penalty-free on the Winningmood 13-year-old to finish 4.62 sec behind the winner, France’s Marie Hecart on Question D’Orval.
And Joseph clinched the runner-up spot in Saturday’s small tour 1.10m speed on Union Jack with a steady clear 14 sec off the pace. Emily Mason claimed fourth on Zomooizo Z. Joseph went on to finish fifth in Sunday’s 1.20m with a double clear almost four sec behind the winner.
Sammie-Jo Coffin eased Willem De Lux into third in the Saturday’s tour 1.35m speed with the fastest time by more than two sec but an expensive rail down.
Sammie-Jo claimed second and fourth in Saturday’s big tour 1.30m two-phase with Georgina EB 1.39 sec off the pace for the runner-up spot and Baccara also posting a double clear.
Emily Mason jumped into second in Sunday’s big tour 1.30m speed on My Lady OL 1.03 sec behind the pace. Joseph eased into third on Cacharel.
