February 19, 2019

After enduring a lorry breakdown en route to Vilamoura, Portugal, and missing out on last week’s age classes with the younger horses, Laura Mantel hit winning mode to take victory in the seven-year-old with Muna Van De Bisschop.

Sixty contended the 1.35m speed class with Laura coasting into the top spot on Sally Jobson-Scott’s Cornet Obolensky/Nabab De Reve mare to win by 1.66 sec.  Laura Renwick claimed second spot on Maverick (Diamant De Semilly/Heartbreaker) and Sophie Fawcett eased Cedric (Catoo/C-Trenton Z) into seventh with Chloe Aston eighth on Centa Radol (Centadel/Stakkatol).  Sophie also picked up 11th on Billy Jackson with Daniel Moseley posting the steadiest of the clears on Magic Quality for 12th and Eliott Dowler returned on just one time fault to take 13th on Angot HH Z.

Laura Renwick claimed two of the top three places in the six-year-old with home-breds.  Fifty-five contended this 1.25m speed with Laura taking victory on the Parco/Tristan De Quelen mare Symphony by 0.18 sec and finishing third on Sky’s The Limit (No Limit/Tristan De Quelen).

Jude Burgess finished fifth on Ivascalle and Laura Mantel took sixth and eighth on MHS Alabama and Innuendo, sandwiching Laura Renwick into seventh on third ride Claretina.  Emma Stoker was ninth on Illonois, Chloe Aston finished 10th aboard Nistria Chanti Z, Mennell Watson took 12th on Extreem Forest and Alfie Bradstock claimed 14th with Gainsborough.

Big entries meant each of the age classes was split into two sections at the Spanish sunshine tour in Vejer de la Frontera.

Leonie Aitkenhead clinched fourth in the 52-horse seven-year-old two-phase section B with Heart-Third (Heartbeat/Churchill) 2.08 sec behind the winner.

Max Routledge finished sixth and seventh on Mademoiselle A (Corland/Cardento) and Memphis V/D Vaart (Elvis Ter Putte/Up Chiqui) and Lucy Wood guided Homme (Inshallah De Muze/Warrant) into eighth.  Jake Saywell took 13th place on Cancari V Z, Leonie also picked up 14th on Prosperous K and Harriet Nuttall was 17th on Forest Quality.
