Laura Mantel powers to a win

Laura Mantel claimed the top spot in the winter 1.35m at Arena UK’s winter classic with Liz Howes' home-bred Glory B V. 

Only 16 initially contended this class with going through to round two, Laura and the Caretino Glory/Animo 11-year-old – at their second show following a three month break – taking the win with 2.84 sec in hand.  Adrian Speight jumped into second place at his second show with new ride Millfield Baloney, a Balou Du Rouet 12-year-old formerly ridden by Chelsea Skelton.

Aimee Jones slotted Lily IV into third place ahead of Michael Whitaker aboard For Fun VI in fourth.  Nigel Coupe finished fifth on Balzac and Zoe Smith claimed sixth on Que Sera III.

Michaela Webb topped the winter grade C on the Conthargos/Artos Z six-year-old Amarillo FSH in a 20-strong decider.  The pair – third in the HOYS newcomers final – claimed victory by 0.30 sec from Emily Llewellyn in second on on her Foxhunter winner Exclusive IV.  Leonie Aitkenhead finished third on Heart Third with Sam Oliver in foueth on Gluk, Sophie Holliday guided Golden Power into fifth and Abi Walters aboard Harlequin Vivendi took sixth spot. 


Lisa Jones jumped to the top in Thursday’s 1.30m on Diana P with more than four sec to spare over Olli Fletcher’s Dahar in second.  Antonio Marinas Soto clinched third spot on Evita X and Adrian with Millfield Baloney finished fourth.

Helen Tredwell claimed Wednesday’s 1.30m by just 0.22 sec on the Zavall VDL eight-year-old Funnycan, pushing Ria Ginley and the Ganges 13-year-old Achillus S into second with Richard Whittington third on Berisja.


Adam Taylor doubled up, winning the British novice on the Harley VDL five-year-old Hazard Z with 2.55 sec in hand and took the top two in the discovery aboard the Irish five-year-old Harley Elite and the Silvano four-year-old Silvano Elite.
