An on-form Matt Sampson scored a double victory in the Oliva Nova, Spain, on the Autumn MET II tour with silver 1.35m and seven-year-old wins.
Matt jumped to the top in the seven-year-old with Geneve R. Thirty-three contended this 1.35m two-phase with Matt easing ahead on the Eldorado Van De Zeshoek/Berlin gelding to take the win by 1.18 sec. Fellow Brit Alison Barton claimed second on Billy Rembrandt (Billy Congo/Kroongraaf) with William Funnell in fifth on Billy Honest (Cevin Z/Vechta). Megan James was seventh on Billy Zingo and Joe Davison was also double clear for seventh on Elgento.
Candy 763 came to the fore in the 71-strong silver 1.35m speed for Matt, the eight-year-old Candiro/Corrado 44 mare forging ahead to take the top spot with 1.44 sec to spare. Kayleigh Watts had to settle for the runner-up spot on the nine-year-old mare Ebriolita and Pippa Funnell steered Billy Blue Bell into fourth. Jo McGlory claimed sixth on Nonstop III ahead of Jane Annett in eighth on Irco Cruise, Alice Watson ninth on Mafia, Tony French 10th with Arkol, Lance Whitehouse in 11th aboard Bazento and Olivia Gent was also clear to take 16th on Rumers Cascari.
Brits filled three of the top four places of the 75-strong silver 1.25m speed. Adrian Whiteway claimed victory on Lux De Lux, the the Lux Z/Clover Hill 11-year-old taking a 2.34 sec advantage over Jane Annett on the Hermes De Reve 10-year-old Sligo Hermes Touch. Alice Watson was fourth on the Chaos/Calando II seven-year-old Fiasco TH with Mark Armstrong sixth aboard the seven-year-old Calico/Pablo stallion Calico Bay. Jo McGlory was ninth on Flaming Key SR Z with Flo Norris 10th on Kadance Van’t Lozerhof and Alice aboard second ride Cloud No. 9 finished 14th.
An easy clear in the gold 1.45m put Jodie Hall-Mcateer and Fantom into sixth, the nine-year-old Mr Visto/Noncorde stallion finishing more than five sec off the pace. Tony French was also clear on the Converter 10-year-old Kinsale Houdini for ninth and Jane picked up just one time fault on the nine-year-old Chacco Gold to take 12th in the 46-strong class.
Chad Fellows steered the Caretino 2/Quidam De Ravel 11-year-old Charmeurs Hope into third in the 66-entry gold 1.40m speed 3.82 sec behind the winner. Remy Ellis was close behind for fourth on the eight-year-old Flinton CN (Clinton/Chin Chin) with Jodie in 10th on Coquin De Coquerie Z and Jess Dimmock 11th aboard Billy In Fashion. Jane Annett was 13th on Billy Du Montois, Lucy Townley took 15th on Billy Uphill and Emily Moffitt was also clear for 18th on Copain Du Perchet CH.
Bethanie Knight slotted the Tornesch/Diamant De Semilly mare Topmodel Van Overis Z into second in the six-year-old two-phase 1.47 sec behind the pace. Lucy Townley jumped Billy Mozette (Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve/Billy Congo) into fourth with Joe Davison’s Venezia (Cardento/Nabab De Reve) in fifth and Emily Mason’s Light Blue 3 (Light On/Cayetano L) in eighth. Registering steadier double clears – Pippa Funnell (Billy Galleon), Lucy on second ride Billy Nala, Jasmin Head (Harsha), Megan James (Calistoga) and Remy Ellis (Helsinki) for 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th and 17th.
Ronnie Jones finished second in the 50-horse five-year-old two-phase with Interstar B, the I’m Special De Muze/Ohorn VDL gelding 1.56 sec off the pace. Ruby Fryer guided Boss Z into third with Tony French on No Fear Van Jonckhoeve (Sandro Boy/Nagano) in fifth and Bethanie aboard Lupin (Lupe/Libero H) in sixth. Sasha Woodhouse was ninth on Ike-A, Millie Mae Evans took 10th with Its Me ahead of Megan James (Iniesta KS) and Lucy Wood (Idaho WP) in 12th and 13th. India Payne took 15th and 17th on Iwalinde and Funisa BH, Will Edwards claimed 19th on I-Bless and Megan finished 20th on Message ME TW.
Deborah Jackson claimed ninth in the 84-strong gold 1.30m speed on the Calido I eight-year-old Chicca 10 sec off the pace. Jodie finished 10th on Salt’N Peppa with Flo in 12th on Donatella L’Espoir ahead of Alice (Nearchos), Will Edwards (SHW Candies B) and Emily Moffitt (Tipsy Du Terral) in 14th, 15th and 18th.
