Billy Twomey is denied victory by a fraction

September 28, 2018

Billy Twomey was just a fraction away from winning on day one at Canteleu, France, with Ardcolum Duke.

Seventy-five contended the 1.45m speed with Billy and the 14-year-old Gypsy Duke/Clover Hill stallion slotting into the runner-up position just 0.11 sec behind the winner, France’s Max Thirouin on Jewel De Kwakenbeek.  Simon Buckley eased the nine-year-old Elia into eighth.  Louise Saywell also jumped a steady clear for 17th on Lady Lou.

Matt Sampson jumped into third in the 1.35m speed with Candy 763, the Candiro eight-year-old finishing 1.67 sec behind the winner, France’s Mathieu Billot on the big-jumping Dassler – a former ride of Louise Saywell and Billy Twomey.  Louise guided Sharp Image into ninth and Harriet Nuttall took 12th on Dulf.
