Laura Renwick is a fraction from grand prix victory in Switzerland
Laura Renwick was the tiniest of fractions away from a grand prix win with Bintang II and had to settle for second in the 1.55m grand prix in Humlikon, Switzerland.
Ten of the 48 starters contended the jump-off with Laura and the Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve finishing just 0.07 sec behind the winner, Switzerland’s Anthony Bourquard on Janus VB. Eight faults dropped Robert Whitaker and Catwalk IV down to seventh.
Laura and Bintang had to settle for second earlier in the week, taking the runner-up spot in Friday’s 44-entry 1.35m 0.83 sec off the winning time. The pair also finished second in Thursday’s 1.50m, 1.38 sec behind the winner, Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs and Christo. Jason Smith was also clear for 11th on Galaya Von Hof.
Laura doubled up with the Vigaro 10-year-old Dublin V. After heading the Thursday’s 1.40m with 0.29 sec, she topped Saturday’s 3* 1.50m two-phase by 1.32 sec. Robert slotted Catwalk into third.
Katie Gygax claimed second in the 1.35m speed with Vigo Mail, the Quality Touch nine-year-old three sec off the pace. Robert Whitaker finished fifth on the Diarado eight-year-old Kwantos VH Meierhof and went on to take third in the Knock-out.
Laura and the Dollar Du Murier nine-year-old Top Dollar VI claimed equal first in the six-bar with Switzerland’s Elin Ott on Loxana CH. And four faults dropped the pair down to 10th in the 45-strong 1.45m speed.
Eighth in Friday’s 1.35m, Jason also claimed ninth on the nine-year-old mare Baligari in Sunday’s 1.35m speed more than four sec behind the pace.
