Shane Breen was a fraction away from a win in Valence, France, with Golden Hawk.
Forty-five tackled this 4* 1.45m speed with Shane and the 13-year-old Vigo D’Arsouilles/Chin Chin stallion crossing the line just 0.38 sec behind the winner for the runner-up spot. Italy’sd Emanuele Gaudiano took the win on Carlotta. Michael Whitaker jumped a steady clear on the Quintender nine-year-old Ambra for 20th.
Robert Whitaker claimed fifth in the world ranking 4* 1.50m with Catwalk IV.
Seventeen of the 50 starters jumped round one clears to go forward to the jump-off with Robert in contention until a rail fell and the Colman 15-year-old dropped from a possible second to fifth. Scott Brash incurred eight faults on the nine-year-old Hello Jefferson to finish 15th.
Louise Whitaker jumped into third in the 2* 1.40m on Brendon Stud’s home-bred Special Warrior. Twenty-seven of 80 starters tackled the jump-off with Louise and the eight-year-old Warrior/Caretino mare finishing exactly one sec behind the winner, France’s Jean Luc Mourier and Umour Buxeen.
Amy Inglis was double clear on the 14-year-old Every Way for ninth. Jack Whitaker on Leonardo and Robert Whitaker on Kwantos Van Het Meierhof – formerly ridden by Joe Trunkfield – both returned clear and four to take 12th and 15th places.
Louise posted clear and eight in the 12-strong jump-off of the 1* 1.25m to drop to 10th on the Contendro I 10-year-old Contendro Star.
Jess Mendoza’s consistent Horst Van De Mispelaere jumped another clear in the 2* 1.35m speed to take third, the Wandor Van De Mispelaere/Polydor 11-year-old finishing 3.24 sec behind the winner. Amy Inglis returned a steady clear on the nine-year-old Calvaro mare Jule Van Den Tinnenpot for 17th, Scott Brash picked up one time fault on the 11-year-old Hello M’Lord for 20th place and Jack Whitaker was 21st with two time faults on Arlo De Blondel.
