Lucinda Roche is unbeatable in Valkenswaard

Lucinda Roche proved unbeatable in the 1* 1.35m speed, taking the top two places in the 27-strong class on the Longines Global Champions tour in Valkenswaard, The Netherlands. 

The Crazyhorse of Coco nine-year-old Izar B took the top spot for British-based Lucinda – who rides for Ireland – and the Cruising/Darco 13-year-old WCE Falco (pictured), 0.67 sec separating the two.  Tess Carmichael on Bangle SR and Camilla Bingham aboard Cassini II also jumped clear for 12th and 14th.

Florence Bellm claimed fourth in the 1* 1.25m speed with the consistent 16-year-old Southbound (Calvaro FCs/Cruising) 2.53 sec behind the winner.

An easy clear on the nine-year-old Hello Shelby (Stolzenberg/For Pleasure) in the 5* 1.55m speed earned Scott Brash fifth place 2.62 sec behind the winner, Germany’s Ludger Beerbaum and Chiara.  British-based Irishman Michael Duffy was also clear on EFS Top Contender to take 19th.

This class ran concurrently with the second round of the Global Champions League with Michael Whitaker also returning clear on the nine-year-old El Wee Widge.  Dohan Fursan Qatar partner Bassem Mohammed came home on four with Gunder to put them in fourth place on a total of five faults over the two rounds.  The Rome Gladiators of Constant van Paesschen and Marlon Modolo Zanotelli claimed victory on a zero score.

A steady clear from Scott earned eighth place in the young horse six/seven-year-old 1.30/1.35m speed, the Elvis Ter Putte/Lord Z six-year-old Hello Zacharay finishing 2.88 sec behind the pace.  

The Longines Global Champions tour 1.60m grand prix of Valkenswaard jump-off was hot, hot, hot!  The Netherlands’ Frank Schuttert topped the 11-horse decider with the 10-year-old Chiant’s Champion by just 0.01 sec over Germany’s Marcus Ehning and Cornado NRW.

Mark Armstrong earned eighth spot in the 2* 1.45m speed with the Echo Van T Spieveld eighth-year-old Juharah 3.82 sec off the pace.  Flo Norris finished 13th on Songe De Toscane and Michael Duffy was 14th on Rumbolds Starlight.

Christina Gachoud finished eighth in the 2* 1.40m speed on the Lux Z 10-year-old ESI Hazel more than four sec behind the winner and Mark jumped into ninth on Areeb OL.  Emily Moffitt was also clear on Captain Jack for 18th.

Emily also picked up 11th in the 2* 1.35m speed on the Mr Blue eight-year-old Kalinka De Kalvarie and nick Benterman finished 13th on Escudo.

Osha Grech jumped clear in the 1* 1.15m speed to take seventh on the 13-year-old Foxtrot Van De Aard more than six sec off the pace.
