Robert Smith loses a win by a fraction in Switzerland

Robert Smith was denied a win by a fraction in the 5* 1.45m two-phase in Ascona, Switzerland, with Ilton. 

Forty-one jumped with Robert and the 10-year-old Dulf Van Den Bisschop/Calvaro stallion finishing in second just 0.13 sec behind the winner, Sweden’s Malin Baryard-Johnsson and H&M Second Chance.  Laura Renwick is quickly establishing a rapport with Major De La Cour and jumped double clear for fifth.

Laura scored victory in the concluding 40-entry 2* 1.35m accumulator with Joker on her home-bred Arkuga, the Arko/Heartbreaker seven-year-old claiming a 0.74 sec advantage.


Robert Whitaker jumped an easy double clear in the 5* 1.50m with Catwalk, the Colman 15-year-old finishing fifth 1.77 sec behind the winner, Italy’s Luca Maria Moneta on Connery in the 16-horse decider.

Jessica Blatchford eased the 11-year-old Chennai into third in the amateur 1.15/1.20m speed 2.05 sec behind the pace.


Four faults dropped Stacey Willsone and the Wolfgang 14-year-old Newton Nickel down to seventh in the amateur 1.25/1.30m speed.

Katie Gygax slotted the Quality Touch nine-year-old Vigo Mail into fourth in the 38-strong 2* 1.30m speed 2.43 sec off the pace.
