Jess Mendoza is in the mix in Moorsele
Jess Mendoza was in the running in the 3* 1.45/1.50m grand prix in Moorsele, Belgium, with Sam De Bacon, settling for an eventual third place.
Only eight of the 56 starters managed round one clears to access this world ranking jump-off with Jess again proving penalty-free on the Kashmir Van Schttershof 12-year-old Sam to finish 1.64 sec behind the winner, France’s Titouan Schumacher on Atome Z.
Syria’s Ahmad Hamcho was close behind for fourth on Lola V – the Locarno daughter produced to 4* level by Joe Whitaker before being sold on. Four faults in the jump-off dropped Phillip Spivey and the Romanov 12-year-old Smirnov down from a possible third to sixth.
Nick Benterman left all the fences intact but picked up one time fault in round one to take ninth on Frau Antje and Guy Williams was the fastest four-faulter with Rouge De Ravel for 10th.
Phillip steered Greg and Tracey Forrest’s home-bred Diamant De Semilly 10-year-old Darya I Nur into third in the 3* 1.35/1.40m speed 1.67 sec behind the pace. Mark Armstrong was hot on his heels for fourth with the Alba 69 eight-year-old Fabienne and Jess was also clear in the 34-strong class for 13th on NP Zelah.
Phillip slotted Alicerova into second in the seven-year-old, the Romanov daughter finishing just 0.07 sec off the pace in the 15-strong jump-off.
Jess posted a double clear on the promising Numero Uno six-year-old Heat Off The Night to take eighth in the 1* grand prix just over six sec behind the winner in the 15-horse jump-off.
