William Funnell is a fraction away from a win in Vittel's world ranking class

William Funnell was less than half a sec from victory in the world ranking class in Vittel, France, but had to settle for second spot on Billy Angelo.

Forty-nine tackled the 3* 1.50m speed with William slotting the Tangel Van De Zuuthoeve 15-year-old into the runner-up position by just 0.39 sec.  The Netherlands’ Glenn Knoester took the win on Alpicor.  Guy Williams posted the fastest time of the class by more than five sec but a lowered rail proved very costly and Rouge De Ravel dropped to ninth.  Nigel Coupe also returned four faults on Jubilee III for 11 th and Louise Saywell was another to make one mistake on Ushuaia D’Aurel for 16th.

William slotted Billy McCain into seventh in the 75-strong 3* 1.40m speed, he Cevin Z 10-year-old finishing more than nine sec behind the pace.

Vicky Lovegrove jumped a double clear in the 1* 1.25m with the 11-year-old Codean R for fourth place 2.80 sec off the pace.

Louise Morley posted the steadiest of the double clears on the Kashmir Van Schuttershof sired Lyon Van De Plataan for seventh in the seven-year-old.  Louise also claimed 13th on Langgeleden on clear and four.
