Jane Annett claimed the opening seven-year-old at the beginning of week on on the MET IV tour at Oliva Nova, Spain, with Hold Up.
Ten of the 35 starters contended the jump-off over the 1.35m track with Jane and Hold Up(Diarado/Courage II) claiming victory by just 0.06 sec. Four faults in round one dropped other Brits down the line, Jane on second ride My Lady OL, Megan James (Billy Zingo) and Stuart Neads (Lilo) finishing 15th, 17th and 20th.
Maisie Drea jumped into second place in the five-year-old 1.15m with Caro Z – winner of the MET III grand prix – the Clintissimo Z/Renkum Valentino mare finishing almost two sec behind the pace.
Jamie Wingrove slotted Iniesta KS (I’m Special De Muze/Larino) into third with Joe Clayton on Jane Heerbeck’s stallion Juncus and Adrian Whiteway with Chacco Volo (Chacco Blue/Carthago) also posting double clears in the 12-strong jump-off for seventh and ninth.
Adrian picked up third in the six-year-old 1.25m with Cooley Network, the Boswell Mr Heartbreaker/Coronado gelding finishing just 0.05 sec off the pace in a hot 14-horse decider.
Megan James eased the Zambesi/Papillon Rouge stallion Mendocino into sixth and also claimed 12th on Calistoga (Askoll Peter Pan/Heartbreaker) with a double clear. Joe Clayton claimed eighth on Jane Heerbeck’s mare Hikita and eight faults dropped McKenzie Ray down to 14th on Himanji.
