James Smith claimed victory in the 1* 1.30m speed in Villeneuve-Loubet, France. Forty-six contended here with the eight-year-old At First D’Authuit (Nabab De Reve/Le tot De Semilly) claiming 1.78 sec to spare.
James eased the seven-year-old Casall daughter Casienna into eighth in the young horse 1.20/1.30/1.35m handicap to finish 1.80 sec behind the pace. Jack Whitaker was also double clear with Betty to take 13th.
A steady clear in the 41-entry 1.40m speed on Arlo De Blondel earned Jack 17th spot, 10 sec behind the pace.
Brody Frost topped the 1* 1.15m with more than two sec in hand on the Balou Du Rouet 12-year-old Balkano in the 18-strong two-phase. He almost made it a one-two, but four faults dropped Brody and second ride Pramwladhofs San Quantas from a possible second to eighth.
Four faults in the 2* 1.30m two-phase dropped Oliver Tuff and Darino B down to 11th. Sammy Cotton posted similar rounds to take 13th on Juwel Girl. Sammy also picked up fifth in the ladies 1.10m on Call Me Cornet.
