Louise Saywell sails to a win in Herning

Louise Saywell skillfully guided Sultanah into the top spot of a mammoth 114-strong 1* 1.35m youngster cup on day one in Herning, Denmark.

The competition was hot, but Louise found all the shortcuts on the Quintus/Voltaire eight-year-old mare to claim the win by just 0.04 sec.

Louise also featured in the evening’s 1.40m two-phase, taking fifth on Graham Ward’s Chicago Z 13-year-old Feigtling just behind her partner Graham Lovegrove, in fourth aboard the Lord Z/Voltaire 13-year-old Ascension Lord, 0.11 sec splitting the two. The Netherlands’ Robert Vos raced away with the win on Darius, more than two sec faster than Graham in the 98-horse class.

William Whitaker posted steady double clears on Justin Van De Zandhoeve and Furmint for 14th and 15th.

Ben Talbot claimed third in the world ranking 3* 1.45m speed with Sacramento, the Leendert/Corlando 18-year-old finishing 2.41 sec behind the winner, Robert Vos on Carat. Graham Lovegrove was just 0.45 sec behind on the 13-year-old Alfie 192 for fourth in the 57-strong class.

In Villeneuve-Loubet, France, Alex Rident was a little over four sec behind the pace to take fifth with the 10-year-old Cassini II/Galoubet A stallion Ucello Massuere in the 52-strong 1.40m speed.

James Smith opted for a steadier route on the eight-year-old Flinstering to take 10th.

Oliver Tuff jumped into third in the 1.35m speed on the Verdi/Burggraaf 10-year-old Darino B, more than six sec off the pace. Jack Whitaker picked up two time faults on both his rides, Arlo De Blondel and Billy Z taking 15th and 17th in the 41-entry class.
