James Smith takes second in the small grand prix at Royan

James Smith guided Flinstering into second in the 1* 1.35m grand prix in Royan, France.

Thirteen of the 50 starters claimed a place in the jump-off with James and the Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve/Ekstein eight-year-old crossing the line 2.22 sec in arrears of the winner, France’s Richard Breul on Vintage D’Authuit.  The pair had finished 13th in the previous day’s 1.30m.

Louise Morley claimed victory in the 1* 1.20m with Simon Nicholson’s Marcolas G, the British-bred 18-year-old stallion (Alme Des Nids/Lars Irco G) galloping ahead to take the win by 0.14 sec in the 54-strong class.

James also picked up sixth twice in the young horse 1.30m classes on the Casall seven-year-old Casienna.

Sam Ward eased Luke Skywalker into seventh in the 1* 1.15m two-phase, the Diamant De Semilly nine-year-old finishing almost 10 sec off the pace.  And Sam also finished 10th in the opening day’s 1* 1.30m on the Diamant De Semilly nine-year-old Romany, 10 sec off the pace.

Anna Power posted an easy round to take 11th in the 1.40m with the Tombola/Lord Z 12-year-old Blazer B, almost 17 sec behind the pace.

And Anna picked up 14th in the 1.35m with one time fault on the Couleur Rubin 12-year-old Crack Van Overis Z, and also claimed 11 th in the 1.10m speed on Bina Ford’s Kannan eight-year-old Charma.
