January 28, 2018

Jess Mendoza claimed fourth place in Saturday night’s $132,000 3* grand prix in WEF, Wellington, The USA, with the scopey Toy Boy.

Sixteen of the 45 starters produced round one clears to make for a fast and competitive jump-off, with Ireland’s Darragh Kenny proving the quickest to take victory on Cassini Z.  Jess and the 10-year-old Toy Boy finished 1.80 sec in arrears.  Ladies from the USA took the other two places on the podium – Jessica Springsteen claiming second with RMF Swinny Du Parc with Adrienne Sternlicht taking third aboard Cristalline.

Amanda Derbyshire was six sec behind the pace in the $35,000 Bainbridge 1.45m classic to take 14th on Irish Kiss III in the 61-strong class.

Ben Maher rode Jack Ass III into 14th with a steady clear in Friday’s 37-strong 1.40m speed challenge, some 13 sec behind the pace.

And Emily Mason posted an easy clear in the 1.35m speed for 12th on Harriri, five sec behind the winner.
