Shane Breen features on day one in Abu Dhabi

Shane Breen eased Can Ya Makan into second place in the 1.40m two-phase on day one at Abu Dhabi 4* in the United Arab Emirates.

Riding for Team Z7 in the 39-strong class, Shane and the Canturo 12-year-old proved 1.16 sec behind the winner, Abdullah Al Sharbatly on Crazy Quick.

The former ride of Joe Whitaker and a daughter of Locarno, Lola V, finished fourth for Ahmad Saber Hamcho and Nigel Coupe posted a steady double clear on Golvers Hill for 15th while David Simpson posted clear and eight on Unex Cognac IV for 25th.

Shane posted an easy round to take 10th in the 4*1.35m speed with Z7 Cordanos Z, almost 14sec behind the winning time. Georgia Tame was also clear aboard Z7 Qamar for 13th and David Simpson clocked up four faults with Fifa Paola to take 20th.

And Shane also featured in the young horse six and seven-year-old, taking third on the seven-year-old Can Ya Makan daughter Z Seven Canya Dance, 1.48 sec behind the pace. One time fault dropped Georgia and Z7 Ascot to seventh and David returned five faults on Z7 Diamond for 12th.
