Michael Whitaker storms to victory in the opening 5* class of Madrid

November 25, 2017

Michael Whitaker got Madrid 5* off to a flying start with victory in the 1.55m speed on JB’s Hot Stuff.

Forty-five tackled the class with Michael’s late round on the 11-year-old Locarno 62/Cavalier Royale mare answering every call to snatch victory by 0.84 sec ahead of a star-studded cast.  It was the second show back for Hot Stuff after six months away.

Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann settled for second on Chaccano with Germnay’s Ludger Beerbaum third on Chiara and Roger Yves Bost for France in fourth on Sydney Une Prince.  Scott Brash posted a good clear on the Stolzenerg/For Pleasure eight-year-old Hello Shelby for eighth almost six sec behind the pace.

Ben Talbot put his driving skills to test in the Jump and Drive 1.35m to take fourth on the Tygo 10-year-old Compromis.  Norway’s Victoria Gulliksen claimed the win with Ballenteskin Watch This.

Richard Howley eased the nine-year-old Dolores into seventh in the 1.45m speed, the Berlin/Voltaire mare finishing seven sec behind the winner, Italy’s Emanuele Gaudiano on Carlotta.  Scott gave Hello Forever an easy run out to come home on two time faults.
