James Smith jumps to the top in St Lo

James Smith jumped to the top in the 2* 1.30m speed on day one in St Lo, France, on Twix De La Roque, the Kannan/Cumano 10-year-old winning with 2.56 sec in hand. 

James also picked up ninth in the 1* 1.30m speed with the Berlin eight-year-old Just Max, finishing almost five sec behind the pace. 

Four faults in the 1.40m dropped James and Doryane HDH from a possible third out of contention and down to 23rd. 


In Lier, Belgium, Michael Potter eased the Emerald Van Ruytershof/Lupicor five-year-old Haya Loma N into third in the five and six-year-old, finishing just over two sec behind the pace.

Zoe Potter jumped a steadier double clear on the five-year-old Wings Z (Eurocommerce Washington/Amethist) for 10th and Joe Clee was also penalty-free on Libelle VD Heffick for 13th.

Christie Tamarin posted a clear in the 62-strong 1.40m speed with the Winning Mood eight-year-old Jacinthe Van Dorperheide to finish more than 12 sec behind the pace for 24th.

Jamie Wingrove jumped the steadiest of the clears for a day one run out on Vingino/Mermus R eight-year-old Ephonie P to take 25th in the 55-strong 2* 1.30m speed.
