Faye Sutton jumps to the top to take the pony grand prix in Sentower Park
Faye Sutton executed almost impossibly tight turns and rode a rousing gallop to the last on Robe Ruadh to take the Ashford Farm 1.25m pony grand prix at Sentower Park’s youth festival in Opglabbeek, Belgium.
Just six of the original 34 starters reached the jump-off with Faye holding nerves of steel to post the fastest time of the class on the Irish 13-year-old, taking victory by 1.35 sec.
Tahnia Jordan-Jones came within 0.05 sec of Faye’s time with her HOYS newcomer and Foxhunter champion Jumper, but a rail down dropped the pair to fifth. There were several hard luck stories with Perdi Digby (Kayleighs Star), Ellie Hall-McAteer (Tixylix) in 10th and 11th and Allana Clutterbuck (Atomic Du Bary), Claudia Moore (Elando Van De Roshoeve) and Ella Quigley (Clemens 43) in 14th, 15th and 17th – all returning on four faults in round one.
Olli Fletcher was just 0.41 sec away from victory in the junior 1.40m grand prix with Disckoboy DN. A quarter of the 44 starters posted first round clears for 11 to go forward to the jump-off with Olli guiding the Ard VDL Douglas/Silverstone nine-year-old into second spot behind Belgium’s Emilie Conter on Viva.
Tabitha Dean was one of five to pick up just one frustrating time fault in round one for 15th place on Blown Away and four faults denied Jodie Hall-McAteer and Colette a jump-off chance and they finished 18th. Allana Clutterbuck also came home on four with Vitaal G and Ben Clark’s Jancovica returned on five.
But Olli proved unbeatable in the children-on-horses grand prix, racing ahead in the five-horse decide to take the win on the 11-year-old Little Business by 1.75 sec.
Brits filled four of the top six places in the pony 1.15m two-phase, Claudia Moore celebrating her birthday with second and fourth aboard Tullineaskey Fear Deas and Shamrock Du Gite. Daisy McKinlay was also fourth on Spot The Go Jo after equalling Shamrock’s time with Ella Quigley in third aboard Seamus. Lila Bremner was also double clear on Foxy Lady 55 for sixth.
Four faults in the second phase of the children-on-horses 1.15m dropped Jocasta Symons and Duffy II to ninth spot.
