Trevor Breen and the big-jumping Bombay feature in the grand prix in Opglabbeek
Trevor Breen steered Bombay into third in the feature Ashford Farm 3* 1.50/1.55m grand prix at Opglabbeek, Belgium.
Only eight of the 53 starters gained access to the jump-off with British-based Irishman Trevor easing the Lord Z/Bon Ami 10-year-old mare into third 0.96 sec behind the winning time. Sweden dominated the top two places, Petronella Anderson taking victory on Chloe over Irma Karlsson with Ida Van De Bisschop.
Robert Whitaker was in contention on the Verdi 10-year-old Cash Sent but a rail fell and dropped them from second to fifth. Others were dogged by four faults, Peter Moloney on D’Atlantique Royale and fellow Irishman Paul Kennedy with Cartown Danger Mouse alongside Helen Tredwell’s Larksong finishing 11th, 14th and 15th.
Robert landed third spot in the 3* 1.40 speed with Contendro Star, the Contendro I nine-year-old coming home 1.89 sec behind the pace. Trevor Breen guided Dy Korette into 11th while Helen Tredwell on Funnycan and Jess Mendoza’s Horst Van Mispelaere also posted steady clears for 14th and 16th.
British-based South African Charles Luyckx claimed fifth in a hotly-contended 73-strong 3* 1.45m aboard the eight-year-old Elina (Carambole/Coriano) 1.75 sec behind the winner, Switzerland’s Romain Duguet on Twentytwo Des Biches. Clear and four in the 16-strong jump-off put Jess Mendoza and Deesse Chavannaise into 14th.
Flo Norris jumped into third in the 1* 1.30m speed with Super D Ysieux, the Air Jordan Z 11-year-old 1.16 sec behind the pace in the 35-strong class. Olivia Howe was also clear for 17th aboard Black Label.
