A little more than half a sec denied Guy Williams a win in St Lo, France. Fifty-one contended the 3* 1.45 speed and Guy and Rouge De Revel were well in contention, but the 12-year-old Ultimo Van Ter Moude stallion broke the beam 0.65 sec behind the winner, the Netherlands’ Willem Greve on Carrera.
Nicole Pavitt jumped into second in the 3* 1.40m with Escapado S in St Lo, France. The Whitesnake eight-year-old finished 1.30 sec behind the pace in the 33-strong speed class. Four faults dropped Guy Williams and Casper De Muze down to 19th.
Louise Saywell and the big-jumping Dassler claimed equal first in the six-bar with two others - France's Gerard Birault on Brazil 4 and Jerome Hurel with Uredo De B'Neville - all faulting at 1.95m. Faulting at 1.90m to share fourth was Rowan Willis on Shark and Joe Veitch with Art Candy.
Winners 24 hours earlier, Graham Babes and Boucheron had to settle for eighth in the 2* 1.45m grand prix. Only eight of the 56 starters posted round one clears to access the jump-off, but an uncharacteristic 12 faults from the Valentino DDH 11-year-old dropped Graham down the line to eighth. Four faults in round one put Australia’s Rowan Willis in 11th on Everse W.
