Robert Whitaker features in Helsinki's world cup qualifier
Robert Whitaker and Catwalk IV featured in the world cup qualifier in Helsinki, Finland, taking fourth in a star studded jump-off.
Nine of 45 starters posted round one clears to access the jump-off with Robert and the Colman 14-year-old providing the first of the clears but dropping down to fourth. They finished 2.42sec behind the winner the Netherlands’ Jur Vrieling on VDL Glasgow V Merelsnest.
"He really isn’t an indoor horse, but he has so much scope and he jumped fantastic! This arena was very difficult for the course builder, but he did a great job!" said Jur, last to go in the nine horse jump-off.
He’d chased the target set by Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann on Mary Lou, who may have been faster but for a dramatic stumble on the turn to the final oxer.
"Jur did the best job, he deserves this win. For me, I was very happy to get second place and some points. My horse was my biggest worry (after her stumble) but she is fine!" said Henrik, who finished in second 1.56sec in arrears.
A steady round by Michael Whitaker on the 10-year-old Con Man JX in the 1.45m speed returned one time fault for 10th place.
