Madison Heath posted a flying round on Sonas Barney in the Stable Company 138cm to realise a long-time ambition, winning at HOYS.
“I got it, I am so chuffed to win,” said Madison, who finished second on Red Alert in the 2015 128cm.
Five of the 19 starters gained jump-off access, Claudia Moore claiming two of the rides.
But it was Jake Myers who got the ball rolling on the wonderful 24-year-old The Agent with a solid clear round.
Madison, who is sponsored by Williams Equestrian, left no-one in doubt of her intentions and set off at a determined pace on the 20-year-old Sonas Barney – a winner here two years ago with Nicole Lockhead Anderson. And the pair flew round to swipe two sec off the time and secure the top spot.
The long gallop to the last vertical – almost the length of the arena – was Maddie’s only concern.
“I was thinking about the last fence and he was a bit ‘wibbly’ to it – all I could think was ‘please keep straight’.”
It was the partnership’s first show for a month.
“We haven’t jumped since Scope [Festival], he’s had a mini break but I rode him for a few days last week to get into it again,” said Maddie, who finds this pony is quite a character.
“He can be a little bit crazy and spooky sometimes.”
Jake’s opening round on The Agent netted second spot as the only other clear. Claudia Moore filled third and fifth on My Bugsy Malone and Tullineaskey Fear Deas, sandwiching Elica Banks and Spending Record into fourth.
