Emma Stoker takes a grand prix victory in Vilamoura
Emma Stoker left the best until last, jumping to the top in Vilamoura’s top-billed 3* 1.50m grand prix in Portugal with Bob Young’s Townhead Tallulah V.
Nine of the 33 starters gained access to the jump-off with Emma landing the top spot by the narrowest of margins – just 0.04 securing victory for Emma and the Tabasco La Silla/Calvados 12-year-old. Portugal’s Duarte Romao took second on Utopie d’Bonneville.
Six competitors incurred time faults only, including Jamie Gornall (Carsten), Peter Charles (ABC Quantum Cruise) and Billy Twomey (Pewit Nono) on one time fault and Billy with three aboard Kimba Flamenco. Laura Renwick with Bintang and George Whitaker’s Chaplini both returned on four faults and Hary Charles clocked five with Valkiry De Zance.
Abbe Elliott (Burchmore Eames) raced ahead in the 3* 1.35m to claim the top spot on Casti Aneira. Twenty-seven tackled this speed class with Abbe and the Lupicor/Casco 10-year-old mare claiming victory by 1.54 sec. One time fault dropped Jamie Gornall to 11th with Christian 25 and Chloe Aston finished 13th on Fiene with four faults.
Abbe also picked up fifth in the 1.40m speed with Booming Blue Z, the Berlin/Carthago Z finishing four sec behind the pace. Chloe rode the Cicero eight-year-old J Adore VD Keihoeve into seventh.
George Whitaker popped the nine-year-old Contero Della Caccia around the 3* 1.20m to take third to finish 1.35 sec behind the pace. Charlotte Meikle slotted Virginia 188 and Zicero D into fourth and fifth here and Abbe was also double clear for seventh on Eleonora III. Clear and four dropped Scarlette Norman to 12th on Chateau De Brion Quainton.
Shannon Kelly slipped into second place in the 1* 1.10m with Kira Van’t Vennehof, the Diabeau/Darco seven-year-old crossing the line 0.59 sec behind the pace. Angela Eardley claimed sixth on Forrella TS with George eighth on Lolly Pop Van’t Akkerhof and Tom Lloyd was also double clear with Diador Z for 10th.
