Joe Whitaker lands the grand prix to make it six wins in Roosendaal
Joe Whitaker concluded a phenomenal show in Roosendaal to take the 2* 1.45m grand prix on Virginia. It brought his tally to six wins for this show.Forty-eight originally started to provide 13 first round clears and a hot jump-off, but on-form Joe outpaced all on the Centauer Z 12-year-old Virginia to land victory with more than two sec in hand.
“I had a great show, although I don’t think I’ll do that again,” said Joe. “I’m home now for a couple of days with the family before I go out for another show.”
And he almost made it seven! Joe was just 0.31 sec in arrears in the 1* 1.30m grand prix on Billyjean, the seven-year-old taking second to the Netherlands’ Bibi van Ooijen on Contagio Girl. Claire Salem was also double clear on the Sandro Boy 10-year-old stallion Salvatore in the 11-strong jump-off.
Two faults in the 2* 1.35m speed on the Arezzo VSL/Materhorn eight-year-old Evita W put Joe in 11th place. The Netherlands’ Julian Kraay claimed the win on Wings.
