British-based Irishman Peter Maloney collared a win on day one in Auvers, France.
He jumped to the top in the 2* 1.40m speed on Calimero Van’t Roth, Team Harmony’s Darco 15-year-old easing ahead to win by 0.28 sec.
Jemma Kirk and Tchoupi Pironniere clinched third just 0.32 sec off Michael’s time in the hotly-contended 63-strong class.
Bumble Thomas guided the Carthino Z 10-year-old Ciandro into ninth in the 2* 1.35m with a steady double clear. Guy Williams gave Ravel De Rouge an easy day one run to finish on two time faults. A steadier round put Peter and Elvis Van De Vrunte in 13th.
Ronnie Jones claimed second in the 1* 1.20m on the eight-year-old LCC Incendia, finishing 1.15 sec behind the pace.
Flo Norris clinched sixth and eighth spots in the ladies 1.30m on Songe De Toscane and Super Ysieux with easy clears in this speed class.
Sarah Lewis jumped into 10th in the ladies 1.20m on Kvint some seven sec behind the winning time and Michaela Tomlinson took 11th on one time fault with Cabela.
Alicia Sherborne took third in the amateur 1.10m on Glamour Vant Prinsenveld one and half sec behind the winner. Kelly Hart rode Faber BH into into 11th and Flo took 12th on Darling HDH – both dropping down the line after incurring four faults.
Flo also picked up fifth in the amateur 1.20m on Imago VD Heffinck on one time fault in the second round. Alicia’s four faults on Etonia earned 10th spot.
