Amy Hardcastle scored handsomely at the Ashby annual show in aShby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire, heading the KBIS British novice second round on AJ The First.
Thirty-nine initially contended but these were whittled down to just eight for the third and final round against the clock, Amy and the six-year-old stallion AJ (Chaccomo Agostini/Legaat) securing victory with almost two sec in hand.
Locally-based Nicola Barry of Sovereign Equestrian claimed second and third places on two promising five-year-olds – the Durrant/Gregor mare Highhope DD and the Dakar VDL/Lancelot stallion Heart Dancer H.
Two more riders posted treble clears to ensure finalist qualification at the National Championships, Stoneleigh, in August – Caroline Barnes in fourth on another five-year-old, the Je Taime Flamenco daughter Tilla Flamenco and Abilgail Brain with the Kannan/Animo six-year-old Billy Muesli.
NB: Qualifications will be updated pending grading of results.
