Louise Saywell continued on her successful run on day one at the popular Keysoe 2*, the concluding big class of the day just managing to finish before 9pm. A winner of Wettenhall’s initial 1.40m with Graham Ward’s Feigtling, the pair secured the top spot of the 78-strong 1.40m speed at the Bedfordshire venue, the Chicago Z 12-year-old finishing with a half sec advantage.
Holly Smith eased the OBOS Quality 004 nine-year-old Quality Old Joker into second with Ireland’s Michael Duffy in third aboard nine-year-old For Pleasure/Diamant De Semilly stallion Brendon Stud’s Fabrice Van Overis. James Whitaker slotted Mersley Chakotay into fourth with Dan Neilson’s Cirrus in fifth spot.
Polly Gredley topped the 1.30m two-phase with the Concorde/Hamlet 12-year-old Unex Arantos, easing ahead with a 0.37 sec advantage over Ben Walker and the nine-year-old Numero Uno daughter Deezie-Katine Weering. Louise Whitaker rode into third on Cuata with Ellie Hall-McAteer on Dazzle II in fourth and Faye Adams and Ciana in fifth place.
Julian Mincher galloped into the top spot of the 1.10m on Wallenberg/Caretano nine-year-old Diretto, beating another speed merchant, Tony Pearson on the 12-year-old Amadeus M (Manhattan/Jasper) into second by just 0.11 sec. Eve Olive netted third place on the Calidos/Darco 10-year-old Calinka VH Maarlo Z with British-based Irishman Trevor Nicholson in fourth aboard Gunar S and Ruby Pointer picked up fifth with Dustsy Van Het Hek.
Julian was denied a second win by 0.37 sec on the 11-year-old mare Calista (Calvaro FCS/Cavalier Royale), Rachael Connor racing ahead on her 11-year-old HOYS newcomer finalist B Valeree (Larino/Andiamo) to top the 63-strong 1.20m two-phase. Lucy Warren rode the Ultimo 12-year-old Alex V/D Molen into third with Olivia Howe in fourth on Black Label and Emma Holmes fifth aboard Quincy 151.
