Ronnie rides for victory at Houghton Hall

June 14, 2017

Ronnie Jones led the way to head a hotly contended KBIS British novice second round at Houghton Hall with Derawley Lady.

Fifty-seven initially contended over the David Ackland designed track, and such was the depth of quality, 26 gained access to a fiercely competitive jump-off.  But Ronnie upped the pace from the off on Ruth Dowie’s Irish-bred Cushleake Clover/Limbo seven-year-old – a mare he has competed since January – to break the beam by a handsome 1.88 sec for victory.

Adele Rand, 17, claimed second spot on Calypso Blue, a six-year-old ridden for the last 12 months, with Benjamin Cornwall picking up third on Minim E, a seven-year-old mare with Amadeus VII/Namelus R bloodlines.

A total of 11 riders posted the required treble clears to ensure a place in the British novice final at the National Championships at Stoneleigh in August.
