Richard Howley takes a close second in the 5* grand prix at St Gallen

British-based Irishman Richard Howley jumped into second in the 5* grand prix of Switzerland in St Gallen with Chinook, beaten only by fellow Irishman Bertram Allen.

Thirteen riders from 50 starters provided clears in round one to access the jump-off and it was all about the clock as 10 jumped clear again in a top-class, nail-biting decider. But Bertram had victory sewn up with the 10-year-old stallion Hector Van d’Abdijhoeve, galloping ahead to win by 0.89 sec.

Richard eased the Tygo/Wellington 10-year-old Chinook into second ahead of Switzerland’s Paul Estermann and Lord Pepsi.

Ireland’s Anthony Condon claimed eight in the 1.45m accumulator with Joker on SFS Arla, an eight-year-old mare with Arko/Voltaire bloodlines.
