Jessica Mendoza hit immediate form in Opglabbeek, Belgium, heading the the 2* 1.35m speed. She outpaced all on the 14-year-old Wan Architect to win by 2.24 sec the 68-strong class. Anna Wilks jumped into ninth on the 10-year-old Cooper and Mark Bunting finished 19th with Eurohill’s Alcatraz.
Charlotte Platt claimed second in the 1.40m speed section B with Colien V, the Lupicor/Goodwill 10-year-old finishing 2.88 sec behind the winner, Ireland’s Denis Lynch aboard RMF Bella Baloubet. Tom Whitaker slotted the Singapore eight-year-old Ebelina W into sixth and his sister Ellen posted a steadier clear on Arena UK Winston for 16th place.
David Murdoch and the Ard VDL Douglas/Fairman 12-year-old Senor D galloped into third in the 1.40m speed section A, finishing more than five sec behind the pace in the 70-strong class. Jessica jumped a steadier clear on Horst Van De Mispelaere for 13th and Sam Hutton’s Concho finished 18th.
Ella Quigley jumped into 12th with two penalty-free rounds on the Corrado I 13-year-old Madame Butterfly in the 2* 1.30m. Also double clear was Dominic Webb on Archie XI and Theo Simpson’s Alvin Only for 17th and 18th. Gillian Bilborough on Ecifee and Kyra Vanstone with D Jimbob also returned clean sheets to finish further down the line. Dominic also claimed fifth in the 1* 1.10m two-phase on the Thunder Van De Zuuthoeve nine-year-old Isaura Van De Marquette, eight sec behind the pace.
Steady double clears in the 1.20m by Jessica on NP Zelah and Sam De Bacon and Theo Simpson’s Flinstering put them down the line in 18th, 19th and 23rd.
Lauren Edwards on Kesara (KannanGrandilot) and Sam Hutton with Godess Hero Z (Glasgow W/Heartbreaker) posted double clears in the six-year-old for 17th and 18th places.
A double clear for Joanne Whitaker and the Peppermill daughter Mill River put them in 19th in the seven-year-old.
