Laura Mantel jumped to the top of the Foxhunter/six-year-old on the impressive Gerdien 2 Van De Oldenhoff on day two of Northcote Stud’s Young Horse Championships.
Forty-seven contended this class with Laura stylishly guiding Jo Linton’s Hos D’O/Vaillant six-year-old, a mare she has ridden since February, into the top spot.
“She’s amazing. She went to Vilamoura with only £30 winnings but has come on in leaps and bounds,” said Laura. “She was always fussy in her mouth and had a sinus operation but an x-ray showed a huge malformed tooth.”
The tooth was extracted in a five hour operation.
“She still has the hole plugged and jumped in the Wales and West newcomer second rounds to finish seventh like this, but she is becoming more and more settled as she realises it doesn’t hurt. She’s naturally quick and very careful – I’m very excited for the future with her,” added Laura.
Owner Jo Linton – a British Airways pilot who also runs a sport horse agency – couldn’t be at the show and was grateful for the livestreaming at this show.
“She watched yesterday from a hotel room in Tel Aviv and rushed through customs to watch today,” said Laura.
