Annabel Shields made her visit to British Showjumping Area North and East Yorkshire 15 and 15a’s annual show at Allerton Park worthwhile, picking up the top HOYS newcomer ticket on a new ride.
Forty-one initially tackled round one of the Connollys Red Mills newcomer second round over Ian Clarke’s track, but Annabel had the jump-off sewn up from the front, providing the winning round from first draw.
The Sir Shutterfly/Mermus R 10-year-old Capriole II – previously ridden by Abbie Carruthers – joined Annabel five weeks ago and this recorded their first win.
“He’a a machine, ultra-careful and very laidback,” said Annabel.
Stephen Lohoar drove down from Drumcarrow Equestrian in Scotland to claim the second HOYS ticket on Gizmo VIII, a Dutch-bred six-year-old he has produced from discovery level for the past 10 months.
Holly Miller missed out on HOYS by one with third place aboard Felicio III and Charlie Dawson filled fourth spot on MB Landini with Lisa Jones in fifth riding Diana P. Chris Moorhouse jumped into sixth on Castle Rock II with Jake Saywell’s Darco Native in seventh, Ailsa Black took eighth on Zara Zing and Annabel picked up ninth with second ride Rubin VHS.
Paul Barker claimed a hat-trick of wins with two 1.30m victories and a 1.15m win. He claimed the top two in the first 1.30m with the consistent speedy pair Lux Fabulous and Sandors Legacy (pictured), pushing Lucy Guild’s Hugana Van’t Heike into third. Tracey Newman rode into fourth on Challenge with Andrew Saywell took fifth on Quimari W.
The second 1.30m top two also fell to Paul, Sandors Legacy taking the win on this occasion with Lux Fabulous in second. Making it a family affair, Paul’ niece Hannah Barker claimed third with Cartouch II.
And Paul also headed the 1.15m on U2, again relegating Lucy Guild, on this occasion riding Gucci LSH, into second place. Adrian Speight took third with Ted Dexter and Ailsa Black claimed fourth on Zara Zing.
Hayley McCaie topped the Foxhunter/1.20m with her seasoned campaigner Mister Tom IV, relegating Sarah Russell to second spot on Annie VII. Alex Moorhouse claimed third on Diamond Chip and fifth with Hamilton H, sandwiching Hannah and Cartouch into fourth place.
Alex headed the newcomers on Harmoniser with Matthew Render in second on Comeragh Artist. Peter Mellor took third aboard Erino B and fourth went to Charlotte Atkinson on Clarino Lady.
In the 1.10m, Imogen Clarkson took the win on Roman O Hara with Philip Curtis second on Ayemonte BG Z.
And Imogen on Roman O Hara also featured in the 90cm, taking second spot to Holly Johnstone, winner on Lux Jazzy.
Anneli Larson was another to claim a hattrick of wins. She galloped to the top spot in the Buckaroo Adventurer 1.05m with Southburn Second Chance, beating Ella Webster and Zeebedee into second place.
Anneli also headed the Scope 95cm and Graham Heath 85cm, taking the top two places in the 95cm, winning on Southburn Sharka and taking second aboard Southburn Second Chance. Southburn Piccallili earned Anneli her third victory in the 85cm, relegating Laura Brown and Blossom into second.
Laura and Blossom also claimed second in the British novice, finishing in the runner-up position to winner, Richard Atkinson on Kings Blues.
Lewis Lowson claimed the Tacklockers 1m novice with HVL Dream Girl with Julia Nelson settling for second on Huzaar II. Kylie Holt jumped into third on Doris II and fourth was awarded to Lesley Marshall and Rascala.
