Billy Twomey is a fraction away from winning on day one in Hamburg
Billy Twomey eased Eindhoven GH into second in the 4* 1.40m speed on day one at Hamburg, Germany. The Vaillant/Sheraton eight-year-old owned by Sam Middleton and Julian Mincher finished just 0.29 sec behind the winner under Billy’s expert guidance.
Nigel Coupe jumped a steadier round for eighth on the 13-year-old Jubilee III. Four faults dropped William Whitaker and Fandango out of contention.
Billy also popped the eight-year-old Lady Lou (Lord Z/Caesario) into 11th in the seven and eight-year-old 1.35m with an easy clear.
Scott Brash was in the mix in the first of the 5* classes, jumping into fifth place in the 1.45m two-phase with a run out on the 11-year-old Hello Forever (For Pleasure/Nimmerdor). They were 3.46 sec behind the winner, France’s Julien Epaillard on the Quick Star 13-year-old Quatrin De La Roque Z.
John Whitaker posted a steady double clear on the nine-year-old Cassinis Chaplin (Cassini I/Cascavelle) for 11th spot and Ben Maher finished on one time fault in phase one with Galip, a Nonstop 11-year-old.
