Nicole is for the high jump with Shahenaz
In a British dominated finish in the six-bar at Bourg en Bresse, France, Nicole Pavitt cleared 2m on Shahenaz to fill the top spot.
Eighteen initially took part with 17 jumping round one clears. It looked like it could be a long night. But round two whittled them down to 10, and the raised fences in round three gave a result. Only Nicole and the brave, eager Chellano Z mare Shahenaz came up with the goods, clearing the final 2m vertical with a flourish of heels for a 4.500 euro prize.
On four faults with three others, Laura Renwick with Top Dollar and Yazmin Pinchen aboard Ashkari shared second spot.
Nicole claimed second in day two’s 44-strong 1.45m speed on Hussah TM, the Diamant De Semilly 10-year-old finishing just 0.08 sec behind the winner, France’s Geoffroy de Coligny on Raimondo Du Plessis.
Laura Renwick picked up fourth in Saturday’s 4* 1.45m speed with the OBOS Quality nine-year-old MHS Washington, finishing 1.22 sec behind the pace. Four faults in the 1.50m class dropped Laura and the eight-year-old Top Dollar out of contention.
Shane Breen popped Colmar into sixth in the seven-year-old final with a double clear almost two sec behind the winner.
Nancy Pinchen guided the 16-year-old Zodiac Z into 10th in the 1.15m speed more than eight sec behind the winner. And Yazmin Pinchen jumped an easy double clear on the 14-year-old Van De Vivaldi for 19th in day two’s 1.40m.
