If your name is Joe, you're on to a winner

If your name was Joe, the odds of winning shot up – Joe Whitaker and Joe Clayton coming to the fore in Allington 2*’s feature class of the day, the gold 1.40m.

The miserable rain on day two didn’t deter speedy riders, and despite the weather they went all out against the clock. And the two Joes were in sync, both breaking the beam at exactly the same time to share the honours. Joe Clayton galloped into the top spot on Jane Heerbeck’s Indoctro 10-year-old Carolus K DHI to equal Joe Whitaker’s round with the 10-year-old home-bred Locarno daughter Lavarno.

Chelsea Skelton was half a sec in arrears for third on Millfield Baloney with Graham Lovegrove on Audi’s Amalia in fourth. Paul Barker slipped Happy boy into fifth in this 51-entry two phase with Mennell Watson on Outcast sixth and Geoff Billington seventh aboard ELO.

William Rekert doubled up with silver 1.30m and bronze 1.20m wins on Tinkerbell W and Daniek. In the 1.30m, William’s risky race to the final vertical paid handsomely, Tinkerbell showing a clean pair of heels despite the rain to win by 0.97 sec. Kerry Brennan jumped into second on Dynamic III and Charlie Dawson slotted Landini into third. Joe Davison claimed fourth on Coral Reef Wise Guy in this 38-strong class with Faye Adams on Ebriolita in fifth and Paul Barker’s early lead with Sandors Legacy taking an eventual sixth spot.

And William outpaced all in the bronze 1.20m, galloping ahead to win on Daniek with a 1.35 sec advantage. Harry Bateman challenged but had to settle for second and third with Venus Du Dun and Duc De Lyon, and Lucy Wood’s Christiaan took fourth. Samantha Sellars eased Darcobal Fravanca into fifth just ahead of Holly Miller’s Chento D in sixth.

Chelsea Skelton topped the small tour 1.10m on Cheleko GB Z, pushing day one's winner William Bayes Jones into second on Panacee by 1.19 sec. Ruby Pointer and Dutsy Van Het Hek slotted into third with Ellie Meager's Quettin Du Buisson Z in fourth and Felicia Davison on Desdemona in fifth.
