Joss Williams gallops to a win on day one at Allington 2*
Joss Williams galloped into the top spot of the 1.40m on day one at Allington 2*, his long-time lead from mid-draw with Culmore Prospect was not headed despite several challenges.
“She’s 17-year-old now but she loves the job,” said Joss, who held on to his lead to win by 0.45 sec in the 52-strong two-phase class.
Kerry Brennan eased Wellington M – her Notts County Mattie Brown 1.55m Stakes winner two days before – into second. The USA’s Emma Heise claimed third with Viper Vombrautshoeve Z with Ireland’s David Simpson on Starfighter in fourth. Joe Clayton finished fifth with Jane Heerbecks’ Carolus K and British-based American Laura Kraut took sixth with the ex-Scott Brash ride Hello Guv’Nor.
Simon Crippen topped the silver tour 1.30m from the front with the Grand Pilot I/Pachat II 12-year-old Atlanta VIII with a 0.90 sec advantage. Keith Shore claimed second in this 54-strong two-phase with the Triomphe De Muze 15-year-old Coriander Van’t Vennehof and Kerry Brennan slotted her mother Liane Smith’s Dynamic III into third. Paul Barker jumped into fourth on Sandors Legacy with Chelsea Skelton in fifth aboard Millfield Baloney and Annabel Shields rode into sixth on Rubin VHS.
David Murdoch headed the bronze tour 1.20m with the Heartbreaker eight-year-old Entesar, the only pair to break the 30 sec barrier to win by 0.85 sec. William Rekert slotted the Zelote VDL nine-year-old Daniek into second in the 34-horse class with Tegan Jones on Apart EA in third. Chloe Winchester aboard Sportsfield Our Clare took fourth with Hollie Pearce on Ryans Hollie in fifth and Lauren Hough on Little Luidam in sixth.
Jackson Reed-Stephenson claimed victory in the seven-year-old with Exception (Vagabond De La Pomme/Dirka), finishing with almost three sec in hand. Holly Miller slotted into second with Felicio (Vittorio/Heartbreaker) and Lousie Saywell took third on Moneybrook Dancer. Kerry Brennan deputised for her mum Liane Smith to take fourth aboard Flinstone de Ness and Louise Saywell was fifth on Hashtag.
Locally-based Rosie Gunn galloped into the top spot of the six-year-old on Jagerbomb (Arezzo VDL/Indoctro), winning with 1.78 sec to spare. Jessica Crosby guided Harvey into second and Michaela Huntington took third with Gina Trojka S. Paul Barker eased Gait L into fourth just ahead of Chalrie Dawson’s Fairy Tale in fifth and Robert Whitaker aboard Val De Vauxelles Z took sixth.
Vanessa Jobson-Scott triumphed in the five-year-old with Muna VD Bisschop (Windows VH Costerv/Nabab De Reve), winning by the narrow margin of 0.08 sec. Harry bateman guided Havanna into second with Lucy Struthers on Opium VDB Z in third. Chelsea Skelton guided Wellbet Quality Clover into fourth with Harry on second ride Heerdelon in fifth and Jackson Reed-Stephenson in sixth on Haileys.
William Bayes-Jones outpaced his 16 rivals in the small tour 1.10m with the Concorde 20-year-old Panacee. Ruby Pointer was 1.10 sec in arrears for second on the 14-year-old Dutsy Van Het Hek and also picked up fourth with second ride Cuis Ghaire, sandwiching Chelsea Skelton into third on Cheleko GB Z. Elliott Dowler was fifth on For Gotti and Felicia Davison slotted into sixth on Desdemona.
