Matt Sampson is on fire in Fontainebleau to record another win
And The Matthew Sampson Show in Fontainebleau, France, continued! Matt’s winning streak shows no signs of abating, and he added yet another victory to his ever-growing tally on Rachael Evison’s Ebolensky. Matt rates this Clinton/Heartbreaker mare highly, and she again showed why in the 2* 1.40m, outpacing and outjumping all 61 rivals to take the win by 0.58 sec.
“She is amazing for an eight-year-old, what other horses find difficult, she sees no problem and finds it all so easy,” said Matt.
Christopher Franks was close on their heels for second with the eight-year-old Mega Times (Megabyte/Goodtimes) for a British one-two, and Jane Annett was also double clear for 11th on Chacco Gold. Sam Ward was steadier for 15th on Thomas.
British luck ran out in the 2* 1.45m grand prix, both Matt on Carron Nicol’s Jaguar VD Berghoeve and Jane Annett's Pallas Masterclass posting four faults in the 24-strong jump-off for 12th and 13th. France dominated taking the top four places, Olivier Guillon taking the win on Vitot Du Chateau by 0.47 sec.
Clare Reynolds took another win on Pikachu, the nine-year-old heading the 56-strong amateur 1.15m speed by 0.80 sec. One time fault prevented Clare and Footloose VT Hazelarenhoekje from joining the four-strong amateur grand prix jump-off, and they finished seventh in the 52-entry class.
Chloe Winchester eased the Douglas/Concorde 10-year-old Houpette into second in the 2* 1.35m two-phase, 0.90 sec behind the winner. James Emblen and Skelwith Lady Delilah returned clear and four to drop to 21st.
Nine of the 69 starters jumped round one clears in the 1* 1.40m grand prix, Chloe and the eight-year-old Contiki amongst them, but four faults in round two dropped the pair to ninth place.
James Emblen popped into fifth in the 1* 1.35m two-phase on Hakon Van De Smeets, the Winningmood 10-year-old jumping double clear but finishing four sec behind the pace.
