Matt Sampson heads the HOYS Foxhunter at South View

Matthew Sampson continued on his incredible winning streak to take the Equitop Myoplast Foxhunter second round at South View on Ebolensky.

Forty-nine initially chased the two coveted HOYS finalist places on offer, and these were whittled down to nine for the third and final timed round. And Matt - a big winner at the Blue Chip Championships, Welsh Masters and Chepstow International - had it all sewn up with an early draw on Rachel Evison’s Clinton/Heartbreaker eight-year-old Ebolensky, winning with more than four sec in hand.

“She is proper, so talented,” said Matt, on this highly-rated grey mare he took on this year.

James Smith provided the only other treble clear for second and a place in the prestigious final with Just Max, a Berlin/Casco eight-year-old that was jumping 1.45/1.50m tracks in Vilamoura in March.

Finishing on four faults – but not coming anywhere near Matt’s time – to take qualifying places at the National Championships at Stoneleigh in August and another crack at qualifying for HOYS are Annabel Shields in third on Rubin VHS and Chris Smith in fourth and fifth on Bono L and Elmo Hill.
