Allana Clutterbuck takes another HOYS win at Arena UK
Allana Clutterbuck enjoyed a bumper Arena UK pony premier. On day one she won the HOYS pony Foxhunter on Atomic du Bary, and 24 hours later she topped the feature pony showjumper of the year to qualify Atomic’s half-brother Sultan du Bary for HOYS – both owned by Sue and Tim Evans.
Thirty-two contended over Mark McGowan’s 12-fence track with technical questions claiming the majority, and only three posted round one clears to immediately decide the three HOYS qualifying places. And using her final draw to maximum effect, Allana, 16, was foot-perfect on the Versailles II 11-year-old to provide the only jump-off clear and also recorded the fastest time.
“He’s amazing and he loves going on a forward stride, that’s why he’s so quick,” said Allana, who was a member of the bronze medal winning British team at last year’s European pony championships on Sultan, who shares his pony dam with half-brother Atomic.
Hannah Barker Clinched second with just one pole on the floor with the scopey Welsh-bred 13-year-old Ammanvalley Santino and Antonia Platt claimed third aboard the 11-year-old Carnhill Luna.
On four faults in round one, Fraser Reed took fourth with Kilcoughan DG Clover, Megan Taylor was fifth with Quantum Light with Sophie Bowen-Howard claiming sixth aboard Star Surprise and seventh went to Madiy Jamison and Bodyssee des Avelines.
Lily Freeman-Attwood was on a roll. A week after qualifying Capability Brown for the pony Foxhunter final at Weston Lawns pony premier, the pair headed the 100-strong Blue Chip pony newcomers here at Arena UK to make it two finals at HOYS.
Sixteen jumped initial clears with six going forward into the final jump-off – but a treble clear wasn’t found, and Lily won on a quick four faults after tapping the second part of the double when the six-year-old gelding made up too much ground in the one-stride double.
Madiy Jamison claimed the second qualifying place on Sweepstake – a HOYS newcomer and Foxhunter finalist in 2016. Sophie Phillips just missed out in third on Valentino Supreme and Oliver Tuff took fourth aboard Heartbreaker Express. Molly Faulkner claimed fifth on Kildun Marathon and Georgina Wareham picked up sixth on Sharelle.
Tabitha Kyle, 9, outpaced all her older rivals to take The Stable Company HOYS 138cm with 1.42 sec in hand on the Iish-bred 14-year-old Lissduff Royal.
“I took all the tight turns but I kept moving forward too and it won the class,” said Tabitha.
Madison Heath kept her cool despite losing her stirrups to guide Sonas Barney into second with Isabella Snowden’s opening round in the 13-strong final decider taking third with Bingo Bong.
Natasha Hamilton was most unlucky not to qualify with Aristo Justice after posting the only other clear in the second draw and the pair had to settle for fourth, but took a National Championships qualifying place at Stoneleigh and another chance to qualify for HOYS.
Mya Roxburgh Caira provided the fastest time of the class, but four faults dropped Paddy’s Pet II into fifth with Jake Myers and The Agent sixth and Iwan Carpenter’s Follow Jazzy Lady in seventh.
Harry Wood topped the 1.05/1.25m initial warm-up with Patchwork Poncho and also picked up third on Beezies Topic, sandwiching Billy Luther into second place on Creme de la Creme. George Atkinson was fourth on Ballysheil Mr Monaghan.

Izabella almost made it two, but had to settle for second in the 128cm with Pondhead Dexter. The win belonged to Olivia Banks, who outpaced all for victory on Remington Steal. Henry Squibb netted third on Pussy Cat Doll with Noora von Bulow taking fourth on Pringle.
Henry headed the 1m restricted rider on Kilcurry Dawn with Daisy McKinlay and Dyffrynanat Intrepid in second. And Codie McGowan provided the only zero score in the tiny tots 90cm to win the class with Rotherwood Dinky Toy.
Pippa Mulready headed the pony Foxhunter on Granby Majesta to win from second-placed Molly Bennett with Cragghouse Floyd. Cleo Loizzo took third on Banner Girl with fourth going to George Atkinson and Sire des Islots.
Oscar Hobby lifted the first place in the Blue Chip pony newcomers on Makarli, pushing Elizabeth Cooper and Tregaron Gold into second spot. Molly Potts Fowles jumped into third on Champs Palace and Pippa Mulready’s Solloway Welsh Dragon took fourth.
